Our departure from Taiwan - with 13 stray animals of us and another 2 from a different organization - did not go unnoticed. Friends of us and our animals brought us to Tauyuan National airport on December 28 where representatives of the press were waiting for pictures and statements. After having walked the dogs one last time, China Airlines patiently checked in 3 suitcases, 15 crates and the wheelchair from our famous two-legged dog Sugar and off we went. At the stop-over at Bangkok Airport, after 4 hours, we made sure the animals were all provided with water for the remaining 11 hours of the flight. On saturday morning all animals landed safely at Amsterdam airport. After blocking the exit of the gate - too many trolleys with animals - Dutch Customs gave us a hand by pushing the trolleys with the slightly bewildered animals through the gate. Representatives of several animal rescue organizations were eagerly waiting to greet the animals they were going to find a home for and at a quiet corner of the airport the dogs finally left their crates. One last hug and off they went with the best caregivers an animal could wish for. Three dogs and five cats stayed with us. The cats could only leave their crates at their temporary home from the parents of Marjan, where they immediately took possession of the best spots and soon were at ease. The dogs were treated to a long walk at the beach. A fresh wind was blowing but the sun was shining and all in all our pets did not seem to mind Dutch winter temperatures at all! The first FLYSTRAY flight was a huge success - all the strays were adopted within one month.
